Even the Pros Google, [FIRST NAME GOES HERE]...

Hey Reader,

I have a confession to make today:

I Google things.

...A LOT!

And you know what? Every single developer, designer, and "tech expert" I know does too. (Yes, even the ones charging premium rates and working with high-end clients!)

Here's the quick version if you're short on time:

  • Being a tech pro isn't about memorizing every bit of code or process
  • True expertise is knowing HOW to find reliable answers and solutions quickly
  • The ability to effectively troubleshoot is way more valuable than perfect recall

Let’s talk about it…

What's Actually Happening When Experts Google

I posted something on Threads yesterday that has been sitting with me. I shared how even as a "tech expert," I'm constantly searching for solutions and information.

Sidenote: Are we connected on threads? And if not, go ahead and connect here 👉🏽Studio117 Creative on Threads, and if you wanna be “thriends” with me, my personal account is here.

Anyhoo… Here’s what I posted:

The thing about tech mastery is that it's not about memorizing random information or "being tech savvy." It's about:

  1. Knowing WHAT to search for (using the right terms)
  2. Recognizing reliable sources from sketchy ones
  3. Being able to adapt solutions to your specific situation
  4. Building a mental framework that helps you understand WHY things work
  5. Being willing to fail forward and learn through trial and error

Think of it like this: a master chef doesn't memorize every recipe – they understand cooking principles so well that they can adapt and create on the fly, using references when needed.

So if you've ever said "I'm just not tech savvy" – stop that right now! That's like saying, "I'm just not good at looking things up."

You absolutely can be good at technology without memorizing everything.

My Most-Googled Tech Questions (You're Not Alone!)

I'll be straight with you... here's what I'm constantly searching for:

  • "Is there a WordPress plugin that can..." (Because the beautiful thing about WordPress is there's almost always a way to accomplish what you want!)
  • "How to make WordPress do [specific thing] without coding"
  • "Best solution for [client problem] on WordPress"
  • Troubleshooting steps when something unexpected happens
  • New ways to optimize and improve sites I've already built

And you know what?

That doesn't make me any less capable of creating amazing websites for my clients.

If anything, it makes me better because I'm always learning, growing, and finding the most current solutions instead of relying on potentially outdated knowledge.

The Resources I Actually Trust

Not all Google results are created equal. When I'm looking for solutions, here are my go-to resources:

  1. W3Schools - Clear, concise examples for HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript. Their "Try it Yourself" editors are invaluable for testing code snippets.
  2. WP Beginner - My go-to for WordPress tutorials, plugin recommendations, and step-by-step guides that anyone can follow.
  3. Charles at WPOPT - When I have super techy questions that go over even my head, he's always been a trusted host and resource.

Here's why this matters for your business...

When you're working with tech in your business, remember that needing to Google something doesn't mean you're "not tech savvy" – it means you're smart enough to find solutions instead of giving up!

The most successful business owners aren't the ones who intrinsically know every tech detail – they're the ones who aren't afraid to try, fail, learn, and keep going.

They know that mastery isn't about memorization; it's about problem-solving.

So the next time you find yourself thinking "I'm just not good with technology," remember that even the pros are Googling right alongside you.

The only difference is that we've learned not to let that intimidate us.

Ready to embrace your inner "figureitouter"?

  1. Bookmark those reliable resources for your specific tech needs
  2. Start keeping your own digital notebook of solutions you find
  3. Join communities where other professionals share their go-to resources

Need help figuring out a specific tech challenge?

You have a tech bestie right here in your back pocket. You can always hit reply on these emails or submit a support ticket, with what's got you stumped, and I'll point you in the right direction.

P.S. I'm curious - what's that ONE tech thing you find yourself Googling over and over? Reply and let me know. I promise you're in good company! And I may even draft a blog post about it for you so you don't have to Google 😉

P.P.S. Don't forget to back up your website! (You know I had to throw that in there 😉)

It's about sounding like YOU – consistently, strategically, and with intention. If your messaging feels scattered or like you’re starting from scratch every time—this is why....

I am a solopreneur and can only take on the full handling of things for a...
