Something your business REALLY NEEDS...

Hey Reader,

I'm switching things up this week.

No WordPress tips.

No tech hacks.

No systems to implement.

Instead, I want to talk about something that powers EVERYTHING else in your business…

Rest.

Here's the quick version if you're short on time

(but you’re gonna wanna read this one through):

  • Rest isn't laziness – it's a strategic business decision
  • Your personality type (among other things) can affect how you rest (and when you need it most)
  • Small rest practices build more sustainability than burnout-recovery cycles
  • When you're well-rested, your creativity and problem-solving capacities skyrocket (like take off...)

We've all heard the "hustle harder" message so many times that taking breaks can actually trigger guilt. I know because I've been there too.

But listen... what's actually happening when you push through exhaustion is that you're borrowing energy from your future self – and charging interest.

The Signs You Need Rest (That You're Probably Ignoring)

I'm gonna break this down for you.

Did you know I'm also a life and business coach who helps people understand their personality types and work WITH their natural tendencies instead of fighting against them.

And here's the thing about personality types – they each have healthy and unhealthy versions. And the warning signs that you're dipping into unhealthy territory are different for everyone.

Maybe for you it's:

  • Making simple mistakes you'd normally catch
  • Feeling irritated by client requests that usually energize you
  • Staring at your screen for 20 minutes without actually doing anything
  • That knot in your shoulder that won't go away
  • Checking email compulsively but not actually responding to any
  • The third night in a row of disrupted sleep

These aren't random occurrences – they're your body and mind waving giant red flags saying "TIME OUT NEEDED!"

Rest Is Revolutionary (And Your Business Needs It)

I want you to make informed decisions about your business, and sometimes the most informed decision is to close your laptop and take a nap.

Think of it like this: Rest isn't the absence of productivity – it's an investment in BETTER productivity.

When you allow yourself proper rest:

  • Your brain makes new connections (hello, creative solutions!)
  • Your body repairs itself (goodbye, tension headaches!)
  • Your perspective shifts (welcome back, big-picture thinking!)
  • Your boundaries get stronger (farewell, people-pleasing!)

As we head into these warmer months, remember that rest isn't just nice to have – it's essential infrastructure for your business.

Revolutionary Rest Practices That Don't Require a Vacation

Here are some suggestions in case you’re like, but TaKenya, I don't even know where to start.

I GOT YOU!

  1. The 90-Minute Focus Block: Work intensely for 90 minutes, then take a FULL 30-minute break. No checking email or social media during the break – actual rest only. This works with your brain's natural rhythm.
  2. The Mid-Week Weekend: Take Wednesday off completely. It breaks your week into two manageable chunks and feels wildly rebellious.
  3. The Digital Sunset: Set a time (ideally 2 hours before bed) when all screens go dark. Your brain will thank you with better sleep and more creativity the next day.
  4. The Power Pause: Before jumping from one task to the next, take 2-3 deep breaths. This mini-reset helps your brain transition more effectively. If you have a dog, they'd love to go for a walk in these little mini break periods. At least mine does…
  5. The Permission Slip: Literally write yourself a permission slip for rest. "I, Reader, give myself permission to rest for [time period] without guilt." It sounds simple, but it works. After all, you are the boss of you, right?

Here's my challenge to you: Pick ONE (or more) of these practices and try it in the next couple of weeks. Then come back and hit reply and tell me what happened!

A Personal Note

I'm writing this email because I needed this reminder myself. Last week, I caught myself making silly mistakes that showed me I was pushing too hard.

So I took my own advice. I didn't get to see my mom on Mother’s Day and celebrate how we normally would. So I saw it as an opportunity to step back and take a day. And what better way than with my momma?

The studio will be closed on Thursday as me and my momma do some frolicking around Charlotte. I'll get back to everything on Friday (or maybe Monday).

Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is absolutely nothing at all.

Need help figuring out what rest practices work best for your personality type?

That's part of what I do, too! Because who said you can only do one thing and love it???

Hit reply, and let's talk about how understanding your type can help you work smarter, not harder.
